Local Events

Like other rural communities in New Zealand the Teviot Valley community runs a number of community events that showcase the skills and expertise of the people who live here. The Millers Flat Rodeo is held in December as part of the national rodeo circuit and attracts a great variety of competitors and spectators. The Roxburgh Racing Club hosts an annual meeting around the New Year at its horse track in Roxburgh East and the Mount Benger A&P Society hosts an A&P show in summer every year.

Millers Flat Rodeo
The Millers Flat Rodeo is held on Boxing day every year and is part of the NZ Rodeo circuit.  It has been held on this day for 50 years and draws cowboys and cowgirls from all over Australasia. Riders come to Millers Flat in Central Otago to compete in bareback riding, calf roping and tying, bronco riding, bull riding, steer wrestling and barrel racing competitions. This is a great family event to get into the swing of your christmas holidays!

Mt Benger A & P Show
The Agricultural and Pastoral Show in Roxbuirgh is held annually February.  The show offers a wide range of activities to keep the whole family entertained!

A Kiwi tradition, the show has something for everyone including: live entertainment, livestock competitions, agricultural demonstrations and displays, amusements, side shows and a range stalls selling everything from Tractors to Candyfloss.

The A and P show is an opportunity for people to display their talents to the community and sell their wares to raise funds. Exhibits can be made in Handcraft, Children, Vegetables, Flowers, Domestic Produce, Farm Animals, Pet and Photography sections.

Roxburgh Races
The Roxburgh races are held annually around New Years in Roxburgh. This is a family filled day of fun that includes racing, fashion, on track entertainment including sack racing and the ever popular childrens entertainment.  This day promises to be a great family day out and seems to be growing in popularity each year with 3,000 attending in 2014.

Scottish Week
A wee dram or two of whisky, a gathering of the clans, a quick canter in kilts and tartan galore - the Teviot Valley's celebration of all things Scottish ticks all the boxes. Scottish Week began in 2010 and has been held annually in September since.
